Plant-based tennis champion Serena Williams has debuted a new vegan fashion collection inspired by Africa – S by Serena Spring 2020.

Williams has drawn from her own experience as an art student, businesswoman and mother to create a collection that is “unapologetic and beautiful” with “pieces that women feel confident in, that reflect their truest selves.”

Speaking to ESSENCE about the decision to use vegan materials including animal-free leather, the athlete and entrepreneur explained: “I feel like a lot of things are being killed and we’re not saving the earth. We can all just do one small thing and help out so that was also a lot of our inspiration.”

The collection, which Williams says is a “fashion passport”, also features dresses, pantsuits, and jumpsuits in bold prints such as Giraffe inspired by Africa.

Williams debuted her first collection in 2018 with a vegan line made up of 100 items, ranging from sports bras to denim pieces designed to empower women to stand out from the crowd and express their individuality.
